The Pace of Progress

How time flies! Admittedly, the post that went out yesterday was supposed to be sent out last week, but somehow my mail chimp account was on pause… my apologies. I can't promise it won't happen again, but it's definitely the last time this week ;). Anywho, I have made my way to the island paradise of Koh Phangan in Thailand. Admittedly, the first couple of days were really nothing like paradise, it rained 23 hours and 54 minutes a day for three days straight (depressing, see photo). On the positive side, it allowed me to sit down and reflect on what I have been doing. Wild to think that one year ago I was getting on a plane heading to Argentina to start living out my dreams. Since then, I’ve been to 23 countries on 4 different continents what a trip. In the beginning of my trip my pace was something like, 2 days here knock out the sites, overnight bus, 3 action packed days there, overnight bus, 3 days in this city or national park…etc etc. I didn’t really have a goal, rather I had an itch that needed scratching. I needed to feel fulfilled in my decision to leave my job, sell my belongings and take to the road.

Making the best of a shitty water situation.

Fast forward to today. I couch surfed in the Philippines in an area where they never see white people. I spent a month in Bali, immersing myself in the culture and lifestyle of the locals, and another two weeks volunteering in Malaysia in an area where tourists don’t often venture. These endeavors have allowed me the time to find my self. Progress before Asia was crossing off countries. Progress now is being a better me. My pace has slowed but my progress is great. I’ve volunteered in 3 countries (5 is my goal, but it was obviously not bold enough). As of today I took the next step in my dive master training, by starting my advanced open water course, I’ve been an open water diver for 14 years and I’m finally going to the next level. This blog has evolved from what I thought was going to be a travel blog into a medium for inspiring without directing. Volunteering, offering expertise, sharing some inspiration and an insiders view to alternate lifestyles.

On that note, I’ve been making travel videos for awhile but I have finally started to invest in taking that up a notch. I’ve got a couple new additions to the back pack that should start 2017 off with a bang. Hint hint: I’m getting a drone for Christmas, and I just bought a stabilizer so the footage doesn’t look like it was taken by a paint mixer. Should have some new videos coming soon! I’m feeling on top of the world (probably because it has been sunny for 2 days in a row). It all started with a choice to do what makes me happy, and it lives on through that very mindset. Change is inevitable you can accept it or fight it, but it will happen either way, why drag yourself through the mud when you can dance in the rain!

Thank you guys for reading, commenting, reaching out, sharing my story, and being a perfect you. From a country divided there is still no me without you and no light without darkness. Let’s shine.

Stay Wild
